The Challenge

The project involved the complex design of infrastructure for a new Satellite (SAT 3) facility, a critical expansion to support growing passenger capacity. The core challenge was creating a comprehensive and compliant design for all integrated services—including power, data, HVAC, and life safety systems—within a greenfield site, while ensuring seamless future connectivity to the existing airport ecosystem. This required navigating stringent aviation regulations, coordinating with multiple utility providers, and designing for both future-proof scalability and immediate operational resilience.

Our Approach

Our approach was collaborative and forward-looking, working in close partnership with FADO from the outset. We initiated the process with intensive stakeholder engagement to capture all operational requirements. Utilising BIM (Building Information Modelling) methodologies, we developed a coordinated 3D design that integrated all MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and telecom systems, proactively identifying and resolving spatial clashes digitally. This model-centric approach allowed for rigorous testing of design concepts and ensured all plans adhered to the highest standards of aviation safety and efficiency.

Results & Impact

The project delivered a fully coordinated, constructible, and compliant design package for the SAT 3 facility. This provides FADO with a clear, actionable blueprint that minimizes the risk of costly changes or delays during the construction phase. The impact is profound: this foundational design work directly enables the timely delivery of a modern, efficient satellite facility, which is essential for enhancing overall airport capacity, improving passenger experience, and supporting the airport’s long-term growth strategy. The robust and scalable design ensures the new facility will serve as a vital operational asset for years to come.
